We fitted the handbrake some months ago and we have never been happy with how unnecessarily long the supplied one is. We've been up and down the facebook group looking for good ideas but just couldn't find a solution we fancied. The most popular solution seems to be to run the handbrake cables above the diff, then cross them over to lose some length, yes it will work but it's just not for us. After many weeks of persuasion Kathryn finally gave in and let Matt shorten it his way... Matt is now liable for any/all handbrake related accidents/incidents at any point in the future!
To do this we pulled the excess into the car and marked where it passed through the supports.
We cut one of the crimps off and disassembled the whole thing. We then cut the sheath to length (about 1ft off each side!)
We reassembled everything, pulled it tight and put a new crimp on (13 tonnes of force should do it)
crimp on
cable cut
check the new cable route and fiddle with adjusters to get the length right
Its really important the handbrake cable doesn't rub on anything when the suspension moves so we gave the tub another trim.
